I spent a day in London recently meeting up with some of the amazing women I've been part of a coaching programme with.
We had a gorgeous afternoon tea and we spent a few hours chatting about our businesses and the direction we’re taking them in for 2018.
It got me thinking...
Years ago I’d have probably left after an afternoon like that one feeling overwhelmed by all the incredible things the women were doing and crippled with self doubt about whether I could do the same.
Self doubt isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It can keep us safe.
For instance, if you’re not a brain surgeon you should probably doubt if you’re able to conduct brain surgery!
However, with your intuition, and making decisions about your career and creating your own business, you know what’s best for you.
In the past you may have made decisions based on fear.
Perhaps you’ve stayed in a job you hate for too long because you’re scared about if you’ll get another job.
By making decisions from a place of fear and lack, we learn to doubt ourselves.
Remember that there's been countless decisions you've made in your life that have been great decisions for you but it’s human nature that you’ve focused on those couple of occasions you’ve not made the right decision.
We tell yourself that if we move forward and make the wrong decision our career will be over! That’s just the fear talking.
So how do we get around the feeling of doubt and fear?
Well, instead of doubting your intuition and trusting your fear how about flipping the switch?
How about doubting your fear and trusting your intuition?
I use this in every decision I need to make in my career and business and it’s never let me down.
I’ve learned that on the other side of fear is massive growth! By trusting my intuition I’ve avoided potentially disastrous situations but more importantly I’ve been opened up to opportunities I’d never have expected.
You might find this a bit too ‘woo-woo’ but when you’re making decisions about your career and whether to create your own business it’s important to be guided by your intuition, your gut.
Ask yourself where in your body do you feel the doubt?
Is it a feeling in your stomach?
Does the fear feel expansive or debilitating?
The key then is to move forward anyway. The fear will always be there. But if you’re going to grow into your new career or create your own business then you’ll need to learn to make decisive gut decisions regardless of self doubt.
Trust yourself. You know you better than anyone else. Be bold and get into action today because clarity truly comes with action.
If you need help with this, let me know. I love helping women reach their potential and create and grow businesses they love on their terms. You're not alone. I've been there!
